Studies on the Fluctuation Characteristics of Airflow in the Built Environment

The fluctuation characteristic of airflow is one of the important factors to influence the indoor thermal environment and human thermal comfort, which attracts researchers’ interest in these years. This paper introduces the recent researches on the fluctuation characteristics of airflow conducted in Tsinghua University. Results show that there exist obvious differences and interesting connections between the fluctuation characteristics of natural and mechanical wind in built environment, which may be main reason why people have different thermal sensations to them. The subject’s vote of thermal comfort for the imitating natural wind, sinusoidal airflow and constant airflow shows that the acceptance for imitated natural wind is the highest at the same mean velocity.
